| Great..I see you pressed the button. The Next Instruction and Previous Instruction buttons control your movement through the lessons and practice sessions. You may go forward or backward as you wish. | n
| Sometimes you may wish to move back and forth to repeat a point. You may also find that you do a little bit one day and some more the next. The Music Tutor allows you to do as much or as little as you like. | n
| Each lesson is sequential, but if you already know the material you may skip ahead. The practice sessions that accompany each lesson are designed to allow you to practice the material presented in the lesson over and over again. Just like with an instrument! | n
| The Music Tutor is ideal for people wishing to practice the basics of music theory. The practice sessions can be used by kids and adults of all ages. | n
| If you have a younger child that is taking lessons, you may wish to go through the lessons together. A young child will need an adult to help explain some of the concepts discussed in the 'Instructor Box'. | n
| During each set of lesson instructions, the Music Tutor will ask a few questions. An Answer Box with options for you to select will appear on the right hand side of the screen. | n
| After you select and answer, a message box will appear in the center of the screen to inform you how you did. Just tap the space bar or press the OK button in the message box to proceed. Now, press the 'Next Instruction' button to see a question. | n
| The question is: Are you enjoying the Music Tutor so far? | y | 1 | Yes I am! | Well? | | | | 0 | First |
| That is all there is to it! I hope you selected the correct answer. | n
| The area above the Instruction Box is the place we will try out some of the things you learn during the lessons. By using your mouse the Music Tutor allows you to point and click or drag and drop various items to practice what you have learned. | n
| The Toy Box will contain the items for use in the practice sessions. If you do not currently understand how to drag and drop items, don't be concerned. The Practice Instructions will explain what to do. | n
| Just below the Toy Box is the Oops Counter! This is a little gauge of how you are doing when you are dragging items from the Toy Box to the Staff. My music teacher used to tell me if I didn't get it right in five times I would have to start over!!! | n
| The Oops counter is like my first music teacher...it gives you five chances to get it right, then you have to start over!!! | n
| So - just to check and see if you are paying attention - How many chances do you get on the Oops Counter? | y | 4 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 4
| To end a lesson at any time you may press the End Lesson button. You may also start over at any time by pressing the Start Over button. | n | | | | | | | | ShowEnd |
| By registering the Music Tutor you receive six lessons in two editions. The first edition has four lessons: Pitches, Sharp Keys and Flat Keys and an overview of Minor Keys. | n
| The lesson on Pitches teaches you the lines and spaces on the Grand Staff. The practice session lets you practice identifying the lines and spaces until they become second nature. | n
| The lessons on key signatures takes you through all the sharps and flats. The practice session allows you to practice identifying the key signatures. First the keys that have sharps in their signature! | n | | | | | | | | Sharps |
| Then you can practice learning all of the flat keys, or go back and forth!!! The Music Tutor lets you pace yourself too, by starting with just four sharps or flats under the Options Menu. | n | | | | | | | | Flats |
| Try pressing one of the buttons on the key pad to the right. See if you can pick the right key (hint - the ? gives the correct answer). | n | | | | | | | | Flats |
| After learning the major key signatures, the Music Tutor briefly discusses the concept of minor keys. The Music Tutor also allows you to practice recognizing all of the minor key signatures. | n
| The last two lessons, the Rhythmic Value of Notes and Time Signatures come in the 'Notes and Time' edition of the Music Tutor. The first lesson covers the rhythmic values of notes and the second introduces time signatures. | n | | | | | | | | Basestaff |
| In the section of rhythmic values we cover whole notes all the way down to sixteenth notes. The practice session asks you to add together notes of smaller values until you they equal a note of larger value. | n
| The practice session for time signatures gives you 4/4,3/4,6/8 and 2/2 measures to practice with. You drop notes into the measure to match the proper total rhythmic value. The Music Tutor then tells you if you are correct. | n
| Once again, if you do not understand some of these terms, that is Okay!! The lessons will explain them to you. | n
| The practice sessions are intended to be a fun way of matching notes and rhythmic values and notes and time signatures until you feel comfortable with all of the basic values. | n
| Whether you are new to music, just started lessons with a teacher or perhaps you took lessons years ago and want to test you memory, the Music Tutor will help. | n
